Moments of Realization
Playwright Amy Freed shared her play writing insight at the July 2000 meeting. Here is a snippet from her talk:

Arrangement of plot events in and of themselves aren't sufficient to make a story compelling, or intrinsically interesting -- the other successful structure element is landing the changes of consciousness relative to those events -- which is what an audience is really tracking. Often the audience's consciousness is changing before the character's is -- its that dance of deepening comprehension of meanings that makes a story feel like a story.

Amy recommended a book of excercises, "The Playwright's Workbook" by Jean-Claude Van Itallie.
