Character and Structure
At our April 2000 meeting, playwright and actor Anne Galjour shared her play writing insight. The following is a few highlights from her talk:
To get to know your character, interview him or her. Ask them the following questions:
- What is your passion?
- What thing from your past do you feel remorse about?
- What would you really love to do?
- What or who really scares you?
- What do you really want to do, but are afraid to do?
On the last point, Anne suggested that what the character wants to do but is afraid of, is the thing that they must do in the play.
